A pediatrician is a doctor who specializes in the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents and the diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses, as well as congenital defects, genetic variance, and developmental issues.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is an organization of 60,000 pediatricians committed to the attainment of optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.

The American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) is an independent, nonprofit organization whose certificate is recognized throughout the world as a credential signifying a high level of physician competence.Certification by the ABP has one objective – to promote excellence in medical care for children and adolescents. Certification represents dedication to the highest level of professionalism in patient care. ABP certification provides a standard of excellence by which the public can select pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists. Although ABP certification is voluntary, nearly all qualified pediatricians seek this recognition.

Kenneth Lee Elmer, M.D.Kenneth Lee Elmer, M.D. has been in practice since 1986, always at The Simon-Williamson Clinic, PC. He is a Board Certified Pediatrician, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Elmer is on the staff and past President of The Children's Hospital, and on the staff of Baptist Medical Center Princeton, St. Vincent's Hospital, and Brookwood Hospital. Dr. Elmer completed medical school and his residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, The Children's Hospital in Birmingham.
